Steeped in history, Positano Retreat is a fairytale villa on the Amalfi Coast. This beautiful baroque palace is laid out over four floors, playing homage to the classic 17th-century design. The date 1716 is carved in stone at the entrance, the year in which the palace became a bishop’s residence. The interior is rich in stuccos, vaults, marble, lacquered doors and other ornaments, and the elegant façade overlooking Positano with statues, panoramic terraces and balconies is reminiscent of the Baroque style of that era. Today, these characteristics give it a strong and distinguishing character in the town.

Step through the gates into the private internal courtyard, lined with giant terracotta vases and hand-painted majolica tiles. Continue inside to the ground floor living room, dining room, kitchen and grand staircase leading down to the spa or the bedrooms above.

The arcadian, antique kitchen has high end, modern appliances hidden between the stone archways, marble sinks and fireplace. The enormous wooden cabinet dates back to the Baroque period, and the two bread and pizza ovens are built directly into the thick stone walls decorated with antique majolica tiles.

The living and dining room is divided into two separate areas; a dining area with a Tuscan oak dining table encircled by a bookshelf, a Neapolitan Rococo mirror and a collection of antique paintings. A special feature of the living room is its enormous double fireplace with hearthside benches inside the first stone frame.

Downstairs, the Salus Per Aquam area has a pool lined with traditional Amalfi Coast majolica tiles and includes massage jets on the walls and seat, a massage waterfall, and a swimming current.

The traditional caldarium and frigidarium from ancient Roman baths have been updated with a sauna and Turkish bath. The treatment, massage and relaxation area, and direct access to an outdoor terrace with its sundeck and jacuzzi, complete the only private villa spa in Positano.

The rooms in Positano Retreat are furnished with antiques dating mainly from the Baroque period, combined with modern amenities including a private bathroom, concierge, courtesy personal care products, sofa, sea view, wifi, air conditioning, flat-screen tv, minibar and safety deposit box.
